David Lynch – Inland Empire

Being interested in David Lynch films I was eager to see his new movie Inland Empire, The film was released on the 7 February 2007 in Belgium and stars such actors as Justin Theroux, Jeremy Irons, Laura Dern and William H. Macy.

Okay the plot:

An actress’s perception of reality becomes increasingly distorted as she finds herself falling for her co-star in a remake of an unfinished Polish production that was supposedly cursed.

One of the Opening scenes was my fav as the female actor was truly scary, here is a brief description from Wikipedia:
In Los Angeles, a female visitor (Grace Zabriskie) calls on the home of Nikki Grace (Laura Dern), a wealthy but aging actress who hasn’t had a good role in some time. The woman claims to be her neighbor, and speaks in an indeterminate Eastern European accent. She relates two “old tales”, one about a boy who caused evil to be born when he passed through a door, and a variation about a girl who got lost in an alley behind the marketplace. She knows several things about an upcoming role that Nikki does not: firstly, that Nikki definitely has the role, secondly that it is about marriage and murder, and thirdly that her husband (played by Peter J. Lucas) has a part in it. She points to a couch across the room and says, “If today was tomorrow, you would be sitting there.” She also tells her that she can’t tell if it’s today or tomorrow. “If it was 9:45, I’d think it was after midnight!” When Nikki turns to look, we see Nikki sitting on the couch with two friends. The phone rings, her butler hands her the phone, and Nikki begins jumping up and down with excitement as she is told she has the role.

Weird out! But I was intrigued, the film follows onto Nikki playing this role and taking a whirlwind trip through space, time, dream sequences and her whole perception of reality. Some of the scenes were amazing with suberb angles and lighting.

The Dancing girls were all hot and were a welcome sidenote every few scenes. The film concludes in Nikki’s house, where Nikki is sitting with many other people. A one-legged woman who was mentioned in Sue’s monologue looks around and says, “Sweet!”. A Japanese girl with a blond wig and a monkey (mentioned in the street woman’s monologue) is also present. End credits roll over a group of women dancing and lip-synching to Nina Simone’s Sinnerman while a lumberjack saws a log to the beat.

Just so confusing but still worth a watch! The soundtrack is very good with some songs by David Lynch. The ghosts of Love is really good as well as Polish Poem the last song on the track. Overall mindbending but highly entertaining!!!!!!

To surmise what kind of film this is read the below;

He asked if Lynch was joking when he requested a one-legged woman, a monkey and a lumberjack by 3:15. “Yeah, you’re on a David Lynch movie, dude,” Dern replied. “Sit back and enjoy the ride.” Dern reported that by 4 p.m. they were shooting with the requested individuals.
