Born Survivor: Bear Grylls

I have become interested  in this show which airs on Discovery Channel Mondays at 10. To say the least he is an extreme individual.

Bear strands himself in popular wilderness destinations where tourists often get lost with no idea what to do. Once there he finds his way back to civilization, demonstrating local survival techniques along the way. This guy parachutes into rainforests, abseils into deserts and lakes, and onto the highest, most inhospitable peaks in America, risking his health and often coming face to face with death.

Using his specialist survival techniques to find his way out of these wildernesses he climbs sheer cliffs, navigates white water and icy crevasses, encounters snakes, spiders and predators and forages for food, from maggots and raw fish, to roots and berries.

Some of the stuff he does includes escaping quicksand in the Moab desert, navigates dangerous river currents in Costa Rica, builds a snow shelter in the Alps and spears fish in Hawaii.

This is a very cool show and makes you things in perspective the next time your waiting for a taxi at half 3 in the morning outside a night club!

Planet Earth Diaries

They are currently showing Planet Earth Documentaries on BBC on Sunday Nights at 8. The 1st episode illustrates a ‘journey’ around the globe and reveals the effect of gradual climatic change and seasonal transitions en route. Most interesting was when they showed Great White Sharks hunting Seals of the Cape of Africa. They showed a clip of a great white jumping out of the water and catching a Seal, it was slowed down 40 times and was just amazing to watch. The sheer power and size of the great white hurling in the air with white water everywhere it was so awesome and powerful. Also in the 2nd episode they show a pride of lions taking down a fully grown male elephant something never before caught on camera. Good watching!!!!
